The Bank of Mexico has posted on its website a 113-page ebook dedicated to numismatics under the name of Invitation to Numismatics. This work is aimed mainly at those who are new to the study of coins, bills and medals and their collecting. It can also be enriching for the general public, particularly those interested in history and related subjects. Likewise, this text may be useful for those who already know numismatics and have their own collections.

The work is composed of four chapters. The first is an introduction to numismatics; in which the etymology and definition of the term, its origin and development are addressed. In general, the purpose of the discipline, its work methodology and its relationship with other sciences are presented; as well as its object of study, importance and contributions to knowledge.

The second chapter, "Mexican numismatic literature: a guide for the
beginner", is a recount of authors and works that over the years have
contributed to the numismatic knowledge of Mexico. The authors are arranged and grouped for the benefit of the reader and a brief synthesis of the main works is offered
. It is a useful guide for those who do numismatics or are on the way to do so.

In "museums and numismatic collections of Mexico", the reader will be able to find information regarding the most important institutional numismatic collections that exist in the country and the museums that offer permanent or temporary exhibitions of coins, bills and medals; for example, the National Numismatic Museum, the National History Museum, the Soumaya Museum, the Numismatic Museum of the State of Mexico and the Bank of Mexico, among others.

Finally, the reader is offered a practical guide on “coin collecting”, in which you can find recommendations on how to start a coin collection, how to study and catalog them. You will also obtain information on the proper handling, storage and conservation of the pieces. Finally, you will find recommendations to increase your collection and to identify fake or altered pieces.

With this work, the Bank of Mexico reiterates its interest in the dissemination of numismatics, offering literature that helps those interested in the matter to practice and cultivate it; since knowing our currency is knowing our history.

From here you can read or download this interesting work, of which I have advanced its introduction.
