2026 — Walled Cities of Malta: Valletta

The new issue, dedicated to the Maltese capital and one of the most impressive fortified cities in Europe.

Valletta: a capital city conceived as a fortress

Founded in the 16th century after the Great Siege of Malta, Valletta was planned from its inception as a modern fortress city, designed to withstand attacks and project military and political power.

Among its most prominent features are:

Its imposing walls and defensive bastions

A rational and advanced urban layout for its time

Iconic monuments such as St. John's Cathedral, the Grand Master's Palace, and numerous forts

Its declaration as a UNESCO World Heritage Site is due to the extraordinary concentration of historical assets in a small area.

Valletta represents not only a masterpiece of military engineering, but also a symbol of Malta's political, cultural, and commercial power throughout the centuries.
