Since October 17, the Central Reserve Bank of Peru has put into circulation the first 1 sol coin of the new Numismatic Series “Peruvian Pre-Columbian Ceramics”.

This collection, which consists of 11 coins, seeks to promote, through a means of payment for mass use, the valuable cultural heritage of Peru, as well as to encourage numismatic culture.

This first coin in the collection refers to the Formative period (1200 – 200 BC) and features the image of a classic black globular vessel with a stylized feline face in strong relief.

On the reverse, in the center, there is an image of a ceramic corresponding to the Formative period. At the top is the phrase “FORMATIVE PERIOD” and in the lower area the denomination in number and the name of the monetary unit. Also visible on the right is a geometric design of vertical lines and the mark of the National Mint and on the left side, the phrase “PRE-COLUMBIAN CERAMICS”.

On the obverse, in the central part, you can see the Coat of Arms of Peru surrounded by the legend “BANCO CENTRAL DE RESERVA DEL PERÚ”, the year of issue and an inscribed eight-sided polygon that forms the edge of the coin.
