For today we have a piece of those that within the theme of sport, reminds us of the anniversary of the birth of a champion of Greco-Roman wrestling. The Bank of Ukraine has just issued a 2 hryvnia face coin minted on an alloy of German silver or alpaca, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the famous athlete, six times world champion of Greco-Roman wrestling, Ivan Maksimovich Piddubny. "Champion of Champions", or "King of Champions", is how the European press of the time defined the fighter, he became famous for his strength, courage and agility. For 40 years, Piddubny did not lose a single championship. Descendant of a Cossack family, he won the legendary fame of an athlete, his name became a symbol of the indomitable strength of a people. At present, people of great physical strength in Ukraine are still being compared to the great Piddubny.
The reverse of the coin represents Piddubny, to the right of which are the years in which he lived 1871/1949, and the inscription ІВАН ПІДДУБНИЙ (IVAN PIDDUBNY) in the right semicircle.
The obverse of the coin shows: at the top, the inscriptions UKRAINE and 2021, under which appears the State coat of arms of Ukraine; in the center, a stylized composition in the form of a medal with its ribbon, on which the globe is represented, around which are the inscriptions: UKRAINIAN HERO (upper semicircle), CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS (lower semicircle); the face of the coin, 2 GRIVNAS, appears at the bottom; On both sides of the central composition, stylized scenes of combat moments are shown; the logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine is located at the bottom right.
