The Central Reserve Bank of Peru continues with the issuance of allusive coins to everything related to the 200th Anniversary of the Independence of Peru, not only to celebrate its independence itself, but also to remember the institutions, entities, armed forces ... that were born at once. The last coin issued is dedicated to the "Bicentennial of the National Library of Peru", the first cultural institution of its republican period.

On August 28, 1821, a month after proclaiming independence, General José de San Martín signed the decree to create the National Library. On September 17, 1822, the National Library was inaugurated, which had 11,256 volumes from the old Jesuit library and from private donations.

In addition to being a symbol of resilience in the face of adverse times and a meeting place for great Peruvian intellectuals, the National Library has established itself as an entity whose contribution to national academic and educational development is invaluable. Likewise, this institution, which also protects the country's historical memory, guarantees the population's access to information and culture.

On the reverse of the coin, in the center, a composition of the cover of the old building of the National Library of Peru is exhibited. On the sides of the coin, the texts 200 Years and NATIONAL LIBRARY OF PERU.

The obverse of the coin features the National Shield, the text BANCO CENTRAL DE RESERVA DEL PERÚ, the year of minting 2021 and the denomination in letters UN SOL.
