The Vikings cremated their dead through a ceremony in which the ship was the protagonist. They were placed on a traditional Viking ship in a horizontal position. Around it were placed various personal items and other artifacts that could be used in the afterlife. The ship would then set sail and be set on fire with an arrow. This marked the beginning of the journey to the afterlife, from Midgard (Earth) to Asgard.

Valhalla is the beyond of the Vikings. It consists of a large room where Viking warriors could spend the rest of eternity feasting together. However, this privilege was only reserved for Vikings who had died in combat. In front of the great hall stood Glasir's tree, which had red and gold leaves and is said to be the most beautiful among gods and men.

This is the context that places us the «Vikings» coin, the first coin in the «Afterlife - Rites of Passage» series. The piece shows the funeral rites of a fallen Viking king on the reverse and the "Valhalla" (paradise) of the afterlife on the obverse. This coin is minted with Smartminting technology, and results in an impressive ultra high relief on both sides. The coin has an antique finish with a colored part and is minted in a 2 oz 45mm pure silver blank of the highest quality. It has a mintage limited to only 555 units and comes presented in a beautiful box along with its Certificate of Authenticity.

The obverse shows a Viking funeral ceremony. In the background there is a Viking village and the relatives of the deceased. At the bottom right is the helmet of the fallen king who lies on the ship with all his most important belongings. It is set on fire with arrows. The candle is colored in Viking colors.

The reverse of the coin depicts Valhalla in the background with the Rainbow Bridge (Bifröst) in the foreground. On the right side appears the golden Glasir tree, which is located in front of the Eternal Hall. Palau's coat of arms is inserted on the left. The inscriptions "REPÚBLICA DE PALAU" (issuing country), "2021" (year of issue) and "10 DOLLARS" (face value), are displayed on the rainbow bridge.
