The next issue that the National Mint and Stamp Factory - Real Casa de la Moneda has prepared for us next Tuesday, November 2, has as its protagonist one of the greats of surrealism and a versatile genius who was introduced in practically all branches of the world. art, Salvador Dalí. His extravagant way of being and all the fantastic imagery that surrounded both his art and his life made him one of the most well-known and controversial artists of the 20th century.

There are two coins dedicated to the brilliant artist on which two of his paintings are represented, "The Temptation of Saint Anthony" and "Galatea de las Esmeros". The first work is embodied in a rectangular piece made up of no less than half a kilo of pure silver and a 150 euro facial, of which only 750 pieces have been minted. The second is a conventional coin, in terms of shape, it has a face of 10 euros, it is minted in 925 silver and its maximum circulation is 5,000 pieces.

 The obverse reproduces the image of Salvador Dalí's painting called "The Temptation of Saint Anthony", which is kept in the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium. The image is surrounded by a graph composed of a path of ants.

Painted in 1946, the work shows Saint Anthony Abbot of the third century, one of the first Christian hermits, represented in the desert fighting against the temptations of fame, sex, wealth and power. Each of them mounted on the back of an animal. The Saint interposes the Cross between his person and the temptations, as the only hope that they will not seize him.
 

On the back, on the left side, there is a portrait of Salvador Dalí, the work of the photographer Melitó Casals; to your left, at the top, the mint mark. On the right side of the coin, and from top to bottom, the face value 150 euro and the legends SALVADOR DALÍ and ESPAÑA 2021. In the background, both the portrait and the legends, there is a detail of the painting «The Temptation of Saint Anthony ». The motifs and legends are surrounded by
a graph composed of a path of ants.

 The obverse reproduces the portrait of Salvador Dalí, the work of the photographer Melito Casals; to his right, in the upper part, the signature Dalí, and below and in two lines the legend ESPAÑA 2021. In the background there is an allegory to the work of Salvador Dalí
called "The disintegration of the persistence of memory." The motifs and legends are surrounded by a graph composed of a path of ants.
 

On the reverse side, a detail of the painting "Galatea de las Spheres" is reproduced, by Salvador Dalí, which is kept in the Dalí Theater-Museum in Figueres. To your right, in the upper part and in two lines, the face value 10 EURO; below the mint mark.
The motifs and legends are surrounded by a graph composed of a path of ants.

Galatea of ​​the Spheres is one of the most representative works of the mystical-nuclear age. It is the fruit of a Dalí passionate about science and the theories of the disintegration of the atom. Gala's face is made up of a discontinuous, fragmented scene, densely populated with spheres, which on the axis of the canvas acquire a prodigious three-dimensional vision and perspective.
