One of the most famous and especially recognized Canadian icons in numismatics is depicted on the 10 cent coin since 1937, I am referring to the Bluenose sailing ship. This year marks the hundredth anniversary of its launch, on March 26, 1921, and the Royal Canadian Mint is taking advantage of the anniversary to issue different coins dedicated to this famous fishing schooner that takes its name from the nickname by which the Inhabitants of Nova Scotia, (blue nose / blue nose), because of the cold.

The latest issues are several, ranging from three 10-cent coins, within the reach of any collector, to the most exclusive and expensive minted in 5 kilos of pure silver, where each of the 125 pieces that make up the issue have been put up for sale for 11,000 Canadian dollars (more than 7,600 euros).

New Bluenose Centennial Dimes

The first coin portrays the traditional image of the 10-cent coin by Emanuel Hahn, introduced in 1937, in which the sailboat is shown along with the double date "1921 - 2021" that commemorates the centenary of Canada's most famous ship.

In the second coin, the design is based on an original work of art by the Canadian marine artist Yves Bérubé, it shows the engraved portrait of the Bluenose under full sail and listed to port in the open sea, the centenary dates are also included.

The third coin is the same as the second, it varies in that the area where the water is has been colored. This is the first colored circulation 10 cent coin issued in Canada.

The other two that I have shown you are also circulating.

The obverse is common for the three coins, this one shows the traditional image of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
