We are confirming countries that join the 2022 common commemorative 2 euro coin that will celebrate the "35th Anniversary of the Erasmus Program". Today we can see the sketch of the coin that Portugal will issue and know the volume of issue in which it will be issued, of which a part in BU and Proof qualities will be specially dedicated and presented with numismatic collectors in mind.
The design of the coin, in which practically only the name of the issuing country changes, is a mixture of two main elements of the Erasmus program: the original intellectual inspiration, Erasmus himself, and the allegory of his influence in Europe. The first is symbolized by one of the best known representations of Erasmus. The second is symbolized by a bundle of links that crosses the coin from one lighthouse to another, representing the numerous intellectual and human exchanges between European students.
As a reference to Europe, some of these links form other stars, born from the synergy between the countries. Figure 35, for the 35th anniversary, emerges from the stars in a contemporary graphic style.
The issue volume for the Portuguese piece is 765,000 coins. 750,000 will be destined for circulation and the remaining 15,000 (7,500 BU and 7,500 Proof) will be presented in cases and wallets for collectors.
All the coins, issued by the different countries, of this common commemorative 2022, will be issued in unison on July 1, 2022.
