On August 1, 1946, the forint (florin) was established as the national currency of Hungary. Consequently, the 75th anniversary of the introduction of the currency has just been completed. To celebrate the anniversary, the Bank of Hungary (Magyar Nemzeti Bank) has put into circulation six commemorative coins with 5 guilder facials that together form a beautiful design. If we put them together in the correct order they form the word FORINT and show the headquarters of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank.
The thematic face of the 5 guilder coins, in honor of the occasion, were designed from an idea by designer Gyuró Mónika. His creation turned out to be the most popular after examining various projects. The six design elements each feature a part of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank building that shows a representation of the building from an angle, when placed in the correct order. The letters of the word FORINT are also part of the six coin designs. Its unique typeface evokes those used in 1946, which marks the anniversary.
The upper part of the coins shows the legend 75 ÉVES A FORINT (75 years of the forint) and MAGYARORSZÁG (Hungary), as the name of the issuing country, as well as the year 2021 that indicates the date of issue.
The common side of all coins shows the face value, equal to all regular circulation 5 guilder coins.
In order for these commemorative coins to reach as many citizens as possible, the Magyar Nemzeti Bank has minted 2 million pieces of each version, for a total of 12 million pieces. The coins will be put into circulation gradually, adjusting to the needs of cash circulation.
Aimed at collectors, to make it easier to obtain them all at once and display them in a beautiful presentation that will keep them as the first day, 12,000 sets are issued with the coins in BU quality.
