Whether flying alone or surveying the environment from the tallest tree, the bald eagle, with its piercing gaze, is recognized as a symbol of strength. This majestic bird of prey, however, can show surprising tenderness when feeding its young, setting an example to ensure the survival and prosperity of future generations.

This is an often overlooked side of the bald eagle that is depicted on the reverse of a new coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint. This two ounce pure silver coin features a multifaceted engraving that adds depth to the eagle and its eaglets, creating a fresh and dazzling representation of this creature seen from a whole new perspective.

The reverse design, by Canadian artist Steve Hepburn, offers a rare depiction of a family of bald eagles ( haliaeetus leucocephalus ). This animal illustration with a multifaceted engraving of an eagle and her three eaglets presents a three-dimensional view of the mother returning to the nest high up in a tree.

The obverse, adorned with a recurring polygon motif, bears the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the work of Susanna Blunt.
