To commemorate 200 years since the creation of the first Royal Australian Agricultural Societies in Tasmania and New South Wales and the celebration of the first agricultural fair in 1822, the Royal Australian Mint issues a specially colored one dollar coin. designed to celebrate the anniversary.

This issue recognizes the contributions of Australia's eight state and territory Royal Agricultural Societies, the agricultural fairs held each year and the many dedicated volunteers who contribute to these iconic community events.

Agricultural shows in Australia have withstood wars, depressions, droughts, commodity price declines and, more recently, pandemics. Today, they remain the main representative of agriculture in contemporary society, providing an important link between the city and the countryside.

Every year, nearly 600 agricultural shows are held in cities large and small across Australia. Farmers proudly display their produce and the community comes together to have fun.


The reverse of the coin features a brightly colored representation of a Ferris wheel as the background, with livestock such as horses, chickens and sheep, alongside a tractor and a selection of farm produce in the foreground. Above the main design is the commemorative text ROYAL AGRICULTURAL SOCIETIES AND SHOWS with the additional text 200 YEARS placed below.


The obverse of the coin shows the former crowned bust of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing the Royal Diamond Diadem crown worn for her Coronation. The Queen also wears the Coronation Collar; Originally made for Queen Victoria in 1858, it was also used at the coronations (as queen consort) of Queen Alexandra in 1902, Queen Mary in 1911, and Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother) in 1937. Artist's initials JC ( Jody Clark) are lowercase on the left. Around the effigy is, in addition to face value, 1 DOLLAR, the name of the queen and the year of issue: ELIZABETH II · AUSTRALIA 2022.


The coin is presented on a card or blister. The issue price is 15 Australian dollars (€10.25).

Although this coin is not intended for circulation, it has liberating power and can be paid with it.
