Spain will release a new commemorative coin on Monday, March 9, 2026, dedicated to March 8 – International Women's Day. This year's coin features the Madrid-born writer Almudena Grandes, one of the most prominent figures in contemporary Spanish literature.
The Design of the Coin
The obverse features a left-facing portrait of His Majesty King Felipe VI. At the top, in a circular arrangement and in capital letters, is the inscription FELIPE VI REY DE ESPAÑA (Felipe VI King of Spain). At the bottom, between two dots, is the year of minting, 2026.
A beaded border surrounds the motifs and inscriptions.
The reverse features a portrait of the writer Almudena Grandes. To the left of the portrait, from top to bottom, are the face value of the coin, 10 EURO, the symbol of a woman with books, and the mint mark. At the bottom of the coin, in a circular font and in capital letters, is the inscription 8-M INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY. At the top of the coin, in a circular font and in lowercase letters, is the inscription Almudena Grandes.
