Another country that has just revealed all the presentations in which the 2022 common commemorative 2-euro coin will be available for the 35th Anniversary of the Erasmus Program is Austria.
The issue volume for the Austrian piece is 1,060,000 coins. One million will be destined for circulation and the remaining sixty thousand will be presented in two eurosets with the rest of the circulating securities with a stamp date of the current year, one in BU quality and the other in Proof quality.
Approved by the European Council of Ministers in 1987, the Erasmus Program promotes cultural, social and academic exchanges between European students. But who exactly was the Erasmus that gives the program its name? Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam was a Renaissance cosmopolitan who worked in many European countries. He died in Basel almost half a millennium ago, but he is still considered an important humanist, philologist, church reformer and pioneering spirit of the Enlightenment. In 1509 he wrote his most famous work, Praise of Folly, a satire examining the many faces of human ignorance.
On its brass core, the special 2-euro coin bears a representation of the famous portrait of Erasmus of Rotterdam painted by Hans Holbein the Younger in 1523. Behind Erasmus is a network symbolizing intellectual and cultural exchange between students from different nations.

On July 1, 2022, one million coins distributed in rolls of 25 coins will be put into circulation.

50,000 of these eurosets in BU quality will go on sale on July 1. It will be made up of the eight regular circulation coins, plus the common 2-euro commemorative coin.

10,000 of these Proof-quality eurosets will go on sale next July 1. It will be made up of the eight regular circulation coins, plus the common 2-euro commemorative coin.
