The ninth coin in the Supersaurus series features Argentinosaurus huinculensis, the largest and heaviest land animal to ever set foot on Earth. Measuring between 30 and 40 meters in length and weighing between 60 and 90 tons, the Argentinosaurus lived in what is now South America about 94 million years ago.

Little is known about Argentinosaurus, since only a few remains have been found, such as vertebrae, ribs and a femur. Finding a small fossil is not atypical in the case of sauropods, since their huge corpses quickly disintegrated after their death, being debris and spread by scavengers. However, when comparing this giant to other better-preserved sauropods, experts believe that Argentinosaurus had a small head, long neck and tail, a barrel-shaped trunk, and four columnar legs. Its enormous weight limited Argentinosaurus' ability to move at high speed, although it was not supposed to be fast because its enormous size meant that it rarely had to flee.

This coin and all those in the series have the peculiarity that they have been colored with special inks that make the silhouette of the animal represented in the piece glow in the dark. On this occasion, the piece shows an Argentinosaurus huinculensis printed in color in the company of another member of its species and a pair of pterosaurs.

The Austrian Mint has officially issued this ninth piece in the series on November 10, 2021.

On the obverse of the coin, common to the entire series, the silhouette of the 12 prehistoric animals that make up the Supersaurus series is represented.
