What better day than today, November 20, International Children's Day, to present you a coin issued yesterday by Croatia to commemorate this children's day, which was designated by the UN to raise awareness in schools and society. in general, and demand that all children are protected, safe, with health and education, regardless of their place of birth or origin.

Children's Day is celebrated all over the world, on different dates. The UN establishes it on November 20, the day the Declaration of the Rights of the Child was approved in 1959. However, the UN itself asked each country to set their own dates, for example in Spain it is celebrated on April 15.

The Croatian National Bank issued yesterday November 19 a new commemorative circulation coin of the bimetallic type with a face of 25 kuna (3.33 euros) dedicated to International Children's Day. The dodecagon-shaped coin, designed by sculptor Karlo Gross and minted by the Croatian Monetary Institute, has an issue volume of just 50,000 pieces.


The obverse of the coin shows in the inner part of the nucleus a house, an apple, the sun, a butterfly and flowers, which symbolize the well-being and some of the fundamental rights of the child: a safe home, food and being able to play freely. The day of commemoration of the International Children's Day «20. 11. 2021 "and the text" MEĐUNARODNI DAN DJETETA "(International Children's Day) are inscribed in the core of the coin. An image of children united in a circular dance appears on the coin ring, symbolizing their cooperation and union, as well as creativity and play.
 


The reverse of the coin shows at the top of the core the denomination number "25" and the name of the currency unit "KUNA". The lower part of the nucleus shows the stylized image of a sable. On the outer ring is the inscription "REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA", which appears in a circular shape and the coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia, to the left of the coat there is a common oak branch with acorns, while to the right a laurel branch flowering.
