O nouă monedă comemorativă din Spania - 18.02.2021

The first coin issuance by the National Mint and Stamp Factory - Real Casa de la Moneda in 2021 will take place on February 21, with a piece dedicated to Emilia Pardo Bazán and International Women's Day.

International Women's Day is celebrated every year on March 8 to commemorate the achievements of women around the world. It began with a protest that took place in New York City in 1908, in which women took to the streets to demand the right to vote, reduced working hours and better pay. Since then it has taken many forms and today is a global event that is supported by many charitable foundations, NGOs, governments and academic institutions.


On the reverse, in the center of the coin, the symbol of the woman appears, within which is framed a portrait of the Galician writer published in the Spanish and American Illustration magazine , of September 8, 1892, and the legends EMILIA PARDO BAZÁN and 1921-2021. On the right, in the upper part, in one line and in capital letters, the legend 8-M DÍA DE LA MUJER; and to the right, at the bottom, the
face value 10 EURO. Bottom left the mint mark.

Emilia Pardo Bazán. He combined two different functions in his life:

1.- Artistic work.- She is considered one of the best writers in the history of Spanish literature and is recognized as one of the best European writers of her generation.

She was a multifaceted woman, who participated in a wide range of artistic activities as a novelist, journalist, essayist, literary critic, poet, playwright, translator, editor, and university professor.

She is the most prolific author of short stories in Spanish literature. In 1908 she began to use the title of Countess of Pardo Bazán, which was granted to her by Alfonso XIII in
recognition of her important role in the literary world.

2.- Role of activist.- Leader of women's rights and feminism in Spain at the time, she dedicated her life to defending them both in her life and in her literary work.
 


The obverse reproduces the portrait to the left of His Majesty King Felipe VI. In the upper part, in a circular sense and in capital letters, appears the legend FELIPE VI REY DE ESPAÑA. At the bottom, between two points, the year of issue 2021.
The motifs and legends are surrounded by a beading of pearls.
