The company Krause Publications, known mainly for its books dedicated to coins and banknotes (World Coins and World Paper Money) has announced the 10 winning coins as Coin of the Year 2021 (coins issued in 2019) in their different categories, these awards are popularly known as COTY (Coin Of The Year) awards.

After a selection of more than 400 coins from around the world, a series of experts from the world of numismatics, have decided that the 10 winners in the different categories are the following:

Best Coin dedicated to Historical Event


Coins that commemorate events, institutions or characters considered very significant in terms of the historical heritage of a people, a country or humanity. The topic must have occurred or have a historical perspective of at least 100 years ago.
 

 Austria - 100 euros in gold - The Magic of gold series: the gold of Mesopotamia

Best Coin dedicated to Contemporary Event

Coins that commemorate events, institutions or characters linked to current or recent events that influence a people or humanity. The themes must have happened for the last 99 years.
 

United States - 1 dollar in silver - 50th anniversary of the moon landing

Best Gold Coin

Coins minted in gold, platinum, palladium or another precious metal, which have a general artistic appeal, both aesthetically and commercially.
 

 China - 100 yuan in gold - Chinese calligraphy art


Best silver coin

Coins minted in silver, which have a general artistic appeal, both aesthetically and commercially.
 

 United States - 1 dollar in silver - 50th anniversary of the moon landing

This coin has also been a winner in the "Contemporary Event" category.


Best Crown Coin

Coins with a general appeal, both from an aesthetic and commercial point of view. Consideration should also be given to the unique theme the coin should reflect, and how this piece fits the definition of 'crown', including a minimum size requirement of 37mm and a maximum size of 45mm.
