A few days ago we learned about the Italian Numismatic Program for this 2021 and I was surprised that a coin was dedicated to the Nutella spread. For me it was something unheard of, I did not understand this recognition very well, but after delving more deeply into what this product means for Italy and its industry, I can come to understand in a certain way its issuance.

The coin, well there are actually three in which only the color of the lid changes, it belongs to a series called "Italian Excellence", which in 2019 recognized the iconic Vespa motorcycle and last year it did so with the no less famous typewriter Olivetti.

The fact that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the successful company Ferrero, which is the owner and manufacturer of the famous hazelnut cream, has influenced the Italian Ministry of Finance to decide to issue these coins on last Friday, February 5, coinciding with World Nutella Day, a date that has been celebrated for 14 years at the initiative of the American blogger Sara Rosso and supported by thousands of "addicts" to this sweet delight.

Through the art of engraving, the Italian Ministry of Finance wanted to pay tribute to one of the icons of Italian industry, which has become a true cultural heritage over time and products that symbolize Italianity are recognized. in the world, in which Nutella could not be missing, the result of the intuition of the great entrepreneur Michele Ferrero, who on April 20, 1964 took the first bottle of the legendary cream from the factory located in Alba, a small town in Italian Piedmont .

But the success of the multinational Ferrero does not end here, after Nutella came other sweets that also conquer the world. In 1968 Kinder chocolate, in 1969 Tic Tac candies, in 1974 Kinder Surprise or in 1982 Ferrero Rocher chocolates. But there are many more that I will not list and that you can find in supermarkets.

In the end, this coin, although dedicated to Nutella, is more a recognition of a successful company, which from Italy exports to the world a sweet universe that triumphs.

Returning to the strictly numismatic, the Italian mint has released a video about the coin in which the iconic Nutella bottle is represented, created in three versions, white, red and green, by the artist Annalisa Masini.
