After many people will be left without being able to get the currency issued on Monday June 15 for the "Centennial of the Spanish Legion", because the FNMT did not calculate well the high demand that this currency was going to have. In order that no one is left without a memory of this military body so beloved by a large part of society and especially by all those who are or have been part of it, the issuance for next Monday, September 21, of a medal is announced dedicated to the same theme that will be issued in sufficient quantity so that anyone who wishes can have theirs and also at a very affordable price.

The reverse of the medal is based on the official logo that commemorates the hundred years of the Legion. The legends that border the central composition are "THE LEGION" and "ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF VALUE, THE VALUE OF ONE HUNDRED YEARS." The mint mark is also shown. 

The composition of the obverse is very similar to that of the coin dedicated to the same motif. In the center and shown l emblem of the Legion designed by Captain Justo Pardo Infantry D. Ibáñez, made of halberds, musket and crossbow arms crossed and on such a Corona Real. It is inspired by the weapons used by the Tercios who, at the service of the King of Spain, fought during the 16th and 17th centuries conquering and defending the Empire.

In the upper part of the medal, in a circular sense and in capital letters, the legend «THE LEGION». In the center the dates "1920" and "2020". At the bottom, in a circular sense and in capital letters, the legends «LEGIONARIES TO FIGHT, LEGIONARIES TO DIE».

The medal looks like it will look great, it has a size of 33mm, which is the same as the 30 euro coins. It is minted in cupronickel which allows a very reasonable price, 5 euros VAT included. Its initial issue volume will be 15,000 units, expandable to as many as necessary to cover all demand.

I think that for those who were left without the coin for the Centennial of La Legión, it is a very good and economical opportunity to have a nice memory of the anniversary. For those who already have the coin, they will surely also like to have the medal.
