On June 27, the National Mint and Stamp Factory – Royal Mint will issue a new gold investment coin ( Bullion type ), dedicated to the Brown Bear , one of the great emblems of Iberian fauna. This issue is part of a prestigious annual series launched in 2021, which has made these pieces a benchmark for both precious metal investors and numismatic collectors.
An investment piece with a wild soul
The 2025 Brown Bear coin represents the fifth release in this collection that unites art, nature and intrinsic value. It is minted in 999.9 pure gold , weighing one troy ounce (31.104 g) and with a diameter of 37.20 mm , meeting international standards for the precious metals market. Its face value is 1.5 euros , although as is usual with Bullion coins, the actual purchase price will depend on the gold price. The mintage is limited to a maximum of 10,000 pieces.
These coins are not intended to circulate as a means of payment, but rather as investment and equity vehicles , easily recognizable and tradable internationally.
Design: historical heritage and ecological pride
The design of this coin fuses tradition and innovation:
Obverse: Reproduces the classic elements of the Spanish royal columnario , an image historically associated with the solidity and expansion of the Spanish Monarchy. Two hemispheres are depicted under a royal crown, flanked by the Pillars of Hercules with the motto PLUS VLTRA , on an undulating sea. The upper part incorporates a quadruple latent image with security symbols: mint mark, five-pointed star, the euro symbol and the silhouette of the columnario. The set is surrounded by the legend FELIPE VI REY DE ESPAÑA and, at the bottom, the inscription 1 ONZA 999.9 ORO.
Reverse: A highly detailed representation of the Brown Bear (Ursus arctos), an endangered animal and symbol of conservation efforts in the Cantabrian Mountains, is shown. To the left is the legend OSO PARDO , and to the right are the mint mark and the year 2025 . The face value of 1.5 EURO is located at the top. A bead of pine nuts surrounds the entire coin, harmonizing aesthetics and symbolism.

The issue has been authorized by Order ECM/630/2025 , published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) on June 17. The coins will be minted by the FNMT and marketed directly or through authorized distributors, both in Spain and abroad.
The retail price will be calculated based on the spot price of physical gold (Reuters XAU=) at the time of the transaction, plus a 10% margin . This ensures transparency, traceability, and international competitiveness , making these coins a real alternative to gold bullion.
