It will be on March 28, when the branches of the Bank of Spain will begin the distribution and circulation of the first 2-euro national commemorative coin that is issued this year in our country, a coin belonging to the series dedicated to Spanish places. included in the UNESCO World Heritage list, and which is dedicated to the Old City of Cáceres.

Apart from this coin, I know that almost all the regular circulation coins with a mint date of 2023 have also been distributed for days.

On the coin, a view of the Plaza Mayor of Cáceres is reproduced. At the top, in capital letters and in a circular direction, appears the legend SPAIN and the year of minting 2023; below, the mint mark. At the bottom, in capital letters and in a circular direction, appears the legend CÁCERES. Surrounding all the motifs and legends, in the outer circular area of the coin, the twelve stars of the European Union appear.

Where and when to get the 2 euro commemorative coin of Spain 2023

Those of us who have been collecting euro coins for some time know very well what we must do to get each year the 2 euro commemorative coin that is issued in Spain at its face value, also for the rest of the coins in circulation. For the newer ones I am going to explain the steps to follow to obtain these coins.

First of all, take into account that the day of its issuance is March 28, being distributed from that date in the different branches that the Bank of Spain has throughout the country.

Branches of the Bank of Spain where to get the currency

The Bank of Spain has its headquarters in Madrid; It also has 15 branches throughout the national territory.

It is necessary to make an appointment in advance to be attended. Requests for an appointment can be made through this Bank of Spain website or by calling 913 385 000 (valid for all branches) from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Customer service hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Once in the branch

We will go to the window for the exchange of euro coins and bills, where we will request the coins we want and through which we will pay the total amount requested in other coins or bills, as long as they are also euros. In principle, they have no obligation to provide us with coins from a specific year, only to provide change, but they usually have no problem providing us with what is requested, as long as they have it available. Sometimes they even have 2 euro commemorative coins from other years that may be of interest to you.

As a general rule, and with few exceptions, the request for complete rolls and not loose coins is met. The rolls of 2 euro coins come with 25 pieces, so they will exchange it for 50 euros. At home then you can open the roll, select the one that is or are in the best condition for your collection and the rest you can spend or use to exchange with other collectors, whether they are from Spain or other parts of the world. There are websites where collectors get in touch to exchange coins.

Another issue to take into account is that all branches do not have the latest coins issued at the same time. So it is easy that in the first days some branches have the most recent coins and others do not.

Just in case, I leave you the telephone numbers of all the branches of the Bank of Spain, you can call beforehand and find out.

Remind you that the Cáceres coin has a maximum issue volume of 1.5 million pieces, so there are plenty of coins for everyone.

Add that this year a second commemorative 2-euro coin is issued to celebrate the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, a presidency that Spain will hold between July 1 and December 31, 2023 and that when we know the date of issue, we will be able to perform the same process to get it at its face value.
