The United States Mint will put on sale on September 2, 2026, the new one-dollar coin dedicated to President Donald J. Trump, one of the most controversial issues of the commemorative program for the 250th anniversary of the United States.Minted at the Philadelphia Mint, the coin will be available to collectors in rolls of 25 coins and bags of 100. Its release marks the arrival on the market of an exceptional issue, both because of the presence of a sitting president and because of the political and legal debate that has surrounded the project since its initial designs were unveiled.
The coin is part of the numismatic program developed by the United States to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 2026. To mark this anniversary, the United States Mint has introduced special designs in several denominations, including the dime, quarter, half dollar, and dollar.
Within that extensive program, the issue dedicated to Trump has become one of the most closely watched. Its uniqueness lies primarily in the fact that it features the portrait of a US president while he is still in office, something extremely unusual in the country's monetary tradition.
The most well-known precedent dates back to 1926, when then-President Calvin Coolidge appeared alongside George Washington on the half dollar commemorating the 150th anniversary of independence. One hundred years later, Trump appears alone and occupies the absolute center of the obverse, giving the new coin a very different character.

Obverse
Obverse
The obverse features a frontal portrait of President Donald J. Trump, dressed in a suit and tie, looking directly at the viewer. His face occupies almost the entire center of the coin, becoming the dominant element of the composition.
The design was created by Joseph F. Menna based on an official White House photograph taken by Daniel Torok. The artist's initials, "JFM," appear to the right of the portrait.
The image is surrounded by the top inscription "LIBERTY", the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST", two stars and the commemorative dates "1776 ~ 2026", linking the year of the approval of the Declaration of Independence with that of its 250th anniversary.

Reverse
The reverse features the presidential seal of the United States , surmounted by an eagle with outstretched wings. The bird holds an olive branch and a bundle of arrows.
On the eagle's chest appears a shield incorporating the number "250" as a direct reference to the Semi-Fifteenth Anniversary. The bird holds in its beak a ribbon with the Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" —"Out of many, one"—.
The design is completed with the inscriptions on the border: "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR". Next to the eagle's tail appear the initials "FG", corresponding to the original designer, Frank Gasparro.
