O nouă monedă comemorativă din Polonia - 12.02.2023

The Bank of Poland has issued a coin to commemorate the prominent Polish astronomer Nicholas Copernicus, since in this year 2023 the 550th is celebrated. Anniversary of his birth. This coin is added to the banknote already issued by Poland for the same reason.

Nicholas Copernicus was born in Toruń on February 19, 1473 into a wealthy family. He was a prominent astronomer, creator of the heliocentric theory, physician, economist, and faithful subject of the Polish kings.

Copernicus' most important work was "De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium" (On the Rotations of the Celestial Bodies). It is believed that he began writing it in 1514 and finished it around 1530. Its publication was delayed for quite some time, until it was published in 1543 thanks to the efforts of the Germans.

DESCRIPTION
 
 

The reverse of the coin shows the inscription “MIKOŁAJ KOPERNIK” (Nicholas Copernicus), a fragment of the monument dedicated to the Polish astronomer located in Warsaw, and the image of sunbeams with an amber stone.
 

While on the obverse appear the coat of arms of Poland, the face value of 50 zlotych, the year of issue "2023" and the inscription "Rzeczpospolita Polska" (Republic of Poland), and in the background an image of the Solar System of Copernicus, from his work "De Revolutionibus Orbium C oelestium".
