The Bank of Slovakia has posted on its website an interesting 80-page catalog in which it shows us in detail all the commemorative coins issued by the Národná banka Slovenska, in the period from its foundation in 1993 to the end of the validity of the Slovak krone as currency in 2008.

The coins issued commemorate the anniversaries of the most significant historical events, that of personalities of Slovakia, or represent cultural and natural motifs present in the country.

The minting of currency has a long tradition in the territory of Slovakia, since the first coins minted there were by the Celts in the 2nd and 1st centuries BC. Minting at the Kremnica mint (Mincovňa Kremnica), one of the oldest continuously operating mints in Europe, began in 1328.
