In a press release I received today from the Bank of Latvia, the issuance of the 2021 commemorative 2 euro coin dedicated to the "Centenary of the 'de jure' recognition of the Republic of Latvia" is announced for next Wednesday January 20, but only in its versions intended for collectors.

In this statement they emphasize the non-issuance, for the moment, of the currency intended for circulation, due to problems derived from the health crisis that we are suffering from the pandemic caused by Covid-19. In fact, they still have pending the release of the 2 euro commemorative 2020 «Latgalia Ceramics», which is rumored to be for the middle of this year. We'll see if both are not put into circulation at the same time.

The national side of the commemorative coin, designed by artist Zane Ernštreite, bears the inscription "100 LATVIJA DE IURE" as well as the year of issue (2021). At the same time, the inscription "Latvija" also indicates the name of the issuing country. The edge of the coin, like all 2 euro circulation coins of the Republic of Latvia, bears the inscription "DIEVS * SVĒTĪ * LATVIJU *" (God bless Latvia). The new 2 euro coin has been minted by the Staatliche Münze Baden-Württemberg (Germany).

The issue volume for this coin is 412,000 pieces, of which 400,000 will be destined for circulation and presented in rolls of 25 units on a date to be determined. 5,000 in BU quality are made available to collectors presented in coincards, and finally another 7,000, in the same quality, are part of the euroset 2021 along with the rest of the circulating coins dated 2021 .
