The Monnaie de Paris presents "Les animaux du monde" (The Animals of the World), a new numismatic collection dedicated to some of the planet's most iconic species. The series comprises six bimetallic 5-euro coins, each focusing on a different group of animals and ecosystems, and a 500-euro coin minted in fine gold that brings together the collection's main protagonists.
After dedicating a 2025 collection to the French people's favorite animals, the French institution is now broadening its focus to global biodiversity. Pandas, big cats, marine animals, birds, polar species, and savanna inhabitants feature in this new collection, which aims to celebrate the richness of wildlife and highlight the importance of conserving this natural heritage.
"The animals of the world": a tribute to the planet's biodiversity
Animals occupy an essential place in the collective imagination. Whether familiar or distant, imposing or delicate, they awaken fascination and reflect both the extraordinary diversity of life and the fragility of the ecosystems on which they depend.
The collection brings together different species through compositions conceived as small family portraits. Each 5-euro coin shows three animals related to the same habitat or group, depicted surrounded by different natural symbols.
According to the Monnaie de Paris, the series aims to capture in metal the admiration and respect that humanity feels for wildlife. The engraver of the collection has strived to faithfully reproduce the characteristics of each species and highlight the essential role they play in the balance of the planet.
5 € COIN – Savannah Animals
Obverse
The obverse features three of the most representative animals of the savanna: the giraffe, the elephant, and the rhinoceros. The elephant occupies the central and upper part of the composition, while the stylized head of the giraffe appears on the left, and the rhinoceros is located in the lower area.
As with all the bimetallic coins in the series, the animals are surrounded by leaves, fish, footprints, feathers, snowflakes and other small symbols related to the different species that make up the collection.
This broadcast highlights the diversity of the savanna's fauna through three animals with very different characteristics: the height of the giraffe, the bulk of the elephant, and the powerful presence of the rhinoceros.

The dolphin occupies the top of the composition, while the turtle swims to the right and the clownfish appears in the lower left. A wavy line runs through the design to simulate the movement of water and visually separate the different depths of the scene.
The collection brings together species known for very different characteristics, such as the intelligence of the dolphin, the longevity of the turtle, and the vibrant colors of the clownfish. All of them are part of marine ecosystems that are as diverse as they are fragile.

5€ COIN – Exotic Birds
Obverse
The obverse features three very different birds: the parrot, the ostrich, and the hummingbird. The ostrich occupies the foreground and dominates the right side, while the parrot's head appears on the left. At the top, the hummingbird is depicted in flight, its beak poking into a flower.
The design plays with the differences in scale between the three species. The ostrich's large size contrasts with the hummingbird's small dimensions, while the parrot completes the scene as a representative of the colorful tropical birds.
The composition thus reflects the extraordinary variety of the avian world, bringing together a species incapable of flight, another known for its intelligence and colorfulness, and a third characterized by its tiny size and its particular form of flight.
