EASTERN EUROPE. Uncertain Celtic Tribe. Ca. 3rd-2nd centuries BC. AR tetradrachm (24mm, 13.26 gm, 10h). NGC Choice XF 4/5 - 3/5. "Doppelkopf" type, imitating types of Philip II of Macedon. Janiform celticized head of Zeus / Celticized horseman prancing right, wearing helmet with long crest, horse with raised left foreleg; rosette before. Lanz 540-542. OTA 233/1. Attractive slate toning with light earthy silhouettes around the devices.

Produced on a fascinatingly large-surfaced and wafer-thin planchet by using Taler dies. Somewhat wavy in appearance, the imperial eagle intricately rendered and mighty impressive on this gently shimmering honey-gold piece.
