2. Carol I Proof Specimen Pattern Ban 1888

Carol I Proof Specimen Pattern Ban 1888 SP63 Brown PCGS, Bucharest mint, KM-Pn44, Schäffer/Stambuliu-39.1.1. An increasingly elusive type in anything considered appreciable, such as this offering, fully Choice and glistening with originality. Of the two varieties, the gilt-bronze examples have higher catalog values, yet are seen with greater frequency both on the market and at the grading services, with those handful of bronze examples seen only half as much. Only a single example of this type finds itself certified finer, making this not only an absolute rarity, but conditionally scarce as well.

4. Carol I Specimen Pattern 2 Bani 1881-B

Unlisted Pattern 2 Bani

Carol I Specimen Pattern 2 Bani 1881-B SP64 Red and Brown PCGS, KM-Unl, Schäffer/Stambuliu-Unl. "REGE AL" in legend. An obscure Pattern, purportedly unique, displaying an alternative obverse design for the 1881 2 Bani. The rejected design seen here with "REGE AL" in the legend was replaced with the approved business design which uses "DOMNUL" in the obverse legend. We note a similar difference can be seen on the two Leu types from this year (cf. Schäffer/Stambuliu-27 and 28). The offering touts a tortoise shell patina with beautiful originality shining through, making for exceptional viewing in person. We note some striated planchet imperfections for completeness, a moot point given the originality of this Specimen. A rare find for the an advanced cabinet.

Carol I 2 Bani 1882-B MS64 Red and Brown PCGS, Bucharest mint, KM18, Schäffer/Stambuliu-25. A near-Gem with tons of original mint red luster, very elusive when both the surfaces and surface color have been preserved to such a prime level.

Carol I 5 Bani 1882-B MS64 Red and Brown PCGS, Bucharest mint, KM19, Schäffer/Stambuliu-26. Glistening rose-colored bronze surfaces dazzle with cartwheeling brilliance, quite an uncommon issue when encountered this nice.

8. Carol I 5 Bani 1883-B MS63 Brown PCGS, Bucharest mint

Carol I 5 Bani 1883-B MS63 Brown PCGS, Bucharest mint, KM19, Schäffer/Stambuliu-28. A scarcer date in this handsomely designed bronze series, very appreciable at this Choice Mint State preservation tier. The walnut coloration is largely uniform throughout and the reverse surfaces display a choice layer of mint gloss.

9. Carol I Proof 5 Bani 1884-B PR65 Red and Brown PCGS, Bucharest mint

Immensely Rare Proof 5 Bani

Carol I Proof 5 Bani 1884-B PR65 Red and Brown PCGS, Bucharest mint, KM19, Schäffer/Stambuliu-31. One curtain fold variety. Unlisted by Schäffer and Stambuliu in Proof and unlocatable in recent auction record archives, this current Gem offering can undoubtedly be classified as a Romanian rarity. The immaculate specimen retains every detail of its original strike and leverages its red patina to maximize its aesthetic appeal. This is the only coin of its type to be certified as Proof by either grading service. An opportunity to obtain such an elusive Proof type should not be taken lightly by specialists that crave the seemingly unobtainable.

10. Carol I 5 Bani 1884-B MS64 Red PCGS, Bucharest mint

Carol I 5 Bani 1884-B MS64 Red PCGS, Bucharest mint, KM19, Schäffer/Stambuliu-31. One curtain fold variety. A superb example of this larger bronze emission from the period, seemingly worthy of a full Gem evaluation, but nonetheless has been awarded with a rare Red color signifier. Presented here is the only certified full-Red example of this date extant, extremely desirable to Romanian copper/bronze specialists as such.
