Today, the first commemorative 2 euro coin from Belgium in 2025 was issued. The coin is dedicated to the "Belgian National Lottery" and in principle, unless otherwise announced later, it is one of those coins that does not go into circulation, it is only available in special presentations intended for collectors.

The issue is limited to 154,000 pieces. Of these, 150,000 are distributed in BU quality coincards , available in equal parts Dutch and French versions. The remaining 4,000 pieces are presented in Proof quality and come with an elegant case.

The design of the coin shows, in the centre, in the background, the logo of the National Lottery, crowned by the goddess Fortuna with the cornucopia, from which several four-leaf clovers fall. On the left, the inscription in Dutch “loterie nationale loterij” appears. Just below, the initials “BE”, representing Belgium, followed by the year “2025”, are also shown. The mark of the master of the Mint (an Erlenmeyer flask) and the mint mark (the staff of Mercury) are also shown. Bottom right: “IB”, initials of the designer Iris Bruijns.

Belgian National Lottery

The Belgian National Lottery is a highly relevant institution that has been contributing to the well-being of society for over 90 years. Founded in 1934, it is dedicated to the organisation of various games of chance, such as lotteries and bets, with the proceeds used to finance social projects focused on areas such as culture, well-being, health and sport.

The management of the National Lottery is overseen by the Minister of Finance, who is responsible for defining its general policy and ensuring its proper functioning. This public oversight ensures that the institution operates in the collective interest, channelling resources towards initiatives that strengthen and enrich society.
