Of these, 500,000 will be destined for circulation, while the remaining 15,000 will be destined for collectors, divided as follows:
7,500 units in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality.
7,500 units in Proof quality.
As for the release date, we do not yet know any details regarding that.
2 euro commemorative coin Portugal 2025 – Sustainable Development
One of the coins commemorates Sustainable Development and the 17 Goals, on the 10th anniversary of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the joint effort of governments and citizens around the world to create a new global model to eradicate poverty, promote prosperity and well-being for all, protect the environment and combat climate change.
At the centre of the coin’s national reverse, a representation of the planet Earth is surrounded by the legend “Desenvolvimento Sustentável [Sustainable Development]”; on the left and top edges, a row of 17 sets of leaves arranged in a triangle suggesting the universal recycling symbol, in reference to the 17 Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; on the bottom and right edges, the legend “Portugal”, the national coat of arms of Portugal, the year and the mintmark “Casa da Moeda” and the name of the designer (Carolina Ladeira).
2 euro commemorative coin Portugal 2025 – Scout Movement
The second coin pays tribute to the Scout Movement and to youth movements that promote cultural exchange, mutual understanding and friendship. In 2025, Portugal will host the 16th World Scout Moot, which will bring together scouts aged 18-25 from around the world to learn from each other and develop new skills.
The national reverse of this coin features a fleur-de-lis, the most universal symbol of Scouting. This central motif is surrounded by several inscriptions: at the top, the phrase “Sempre alerta. Sempre pronto” (Always alert. Always ready), which are the two Portuguese translations of Baden-Powell’s motto “Be Prepared”. These phrases are used by the main Scout organisations in Portugal. On the left is the name of the designer (Pedro Carvalho), at the bottom the year of issue and the issuing country “Portugal”, and on the right the national coat of arms of Portugal, followed by the mintmark “Casa da Moeda”.
