A new collector's coin has just been issued in Peru, it has a face value of 1 sol, is minted in silver and is dedicated to commemorating the "Bicentennial of the Battle of
Ayacucho."

The Battle of Ayacucho (December 9, 1824) was the engagement that secured the independence of South America from Spanish rule. Led by Antonio José de Sucre, patriotic troops defeated the royalist army commanded by Viceroy José de la Serna at the Pampa de Quinua, Peru. The victory culminated in the Capitulation of Ayacucho, marking the end of Spanish power in the region. This event consolidated Peru's independence and was key to the liberation of South America.

The reverse shows in the center an image based on the painting by Daniel Hernández Morillo, “Capitulation of Ayacucho”, which is in the art gallery of the Museum of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru. In this oil painting, José de Canterac, the royalist Chief of Staff, can be seen signing the capitulation before General Antonio José de Sucre.

At the top is the text “200 YEARS OF THE BATTLE OF AYACUCHO,” and at
the bottom is a latent image showing the brand of the National Mint
and the initials BCRP, visible by placing the coin tangentially towards a light source.

The obverse features the Coat of Arms, the text “BANCO CENTRAL DE RESERVA DEL PERÚ”, the year of issue and the denomination “UN SOL”.
