In just a few days, more specifically on September 18, the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance, together with the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato, in charge of minting each of the legal tender coins in Italy, will issue two new coins which will continue with the reissue of the old Italian Lira, currency used in the country from 1861 until the introduction of the Euro.

Both pieces minted in ¼ and ½ ounces of gold, with face value of 20 and 50 euros respectively, will have a limited edition of only 999 coins of each, and will be added to the rest of the coins that make up the series “The reissue of the Lira ”, collection started in 2021 with the aim of paying tribute to the symbol currency of Italy, which has accompanied important events in the modern and contemporary history of Italy until the arrival of the euro.

On the reverse of both pieces the iconography of the old 5 lira coin is represented with the iconic dolphin. Above we see the number “5” indicating its value from the 1950s until the introduction of the euro. On the left is the year of issue of the coin “2023”, on the right the face value, and below, the letter “R”, identifying the Rome Mint, all surrounded by a frame decorated with dots.

On the other hand, on the obverse of the coins, surrounded by a decorative dotted frame, a rudder is reproduced, as in the last version minted between 1951 and 2001. Around it, there are the inscriptions “REPUBBLICA ITALIANA”, and “CASSOL” ( María Ángel Cassol) name of the designer.
