On May 11, a coin dedicated to the "Fire Department" is issued in Germany. This innovative piece follows the line started a few years ago by incorporating a translucent polymer ring in the central area that separates the coin into two parts.

This new coin corresponds to a series started in 2022 called “At the Service of Society” with one dedicated to “Caregivers”.

The series wants to provide recognition and value professional groups that are essential for the functioning of society and people's lives. Each year they are minted with a plastic ring in the characteristic color of the respective professional group.

The coin, which will be available in a few days, has been designed by the artists Lorenz Crössmann (obverse) and Patrick Niesel (reverse).

The central motif on the obverse is two firefighters in full PPE attacking the fire. In addition to a wall of flames, the design incorporates aspects of a fire brigade intervention: a person who has just been rescued is being attended to and the characteristic stair lift against a backdrop of a city skyline. The vital importance of teamwork in the line of duty is perceived. The composition underlines the dynamism of the fire service in action.

On the reverse, which will be used on all coins in the series, there is an eagle framed by the words "BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND", the value and denomination, the year 2023, the twelve stars of Europe and the mintmark "A". (Berlin), "D" (Munich), "F" (Stuttgart), "G" (Karlsruhe) or "J" (Hamburg), depending on where the coin was minted.

The plain edge of the coin bears the inscription "IM DIENST DER GESELLSCHAFT" (IN THE SERVICE OF SOCIETY).

The 10 euro collector coin “Fire Department” is minted on a cupronickel blank and a fiery red plastic ring. It has a weight of 9.8 g, a diameter of 28.75 mm and has two minting qualities, BU and Proof. BU mintage quality coins will be offered for sale at their face value (10 euros). The Proof quality coins have a special presentation and their price in Germany is around 27 euros.
