Another of the famous investment coins minted and marketed by the Australian The Perth Mint, the Koala, has been issued. Struck from 99.99% pure silver, the 2023 Koala is available in one ounce and one kilo sizes.While the one-ounce version has a limited print run of 300,000 units, the one-kilo version has an unlimited print run, although it will only be minted until the end of 2023.

Widespread recognition of the koala as a symbolic member of Australia's unique marsupial family led to the release of the Australian silver Koala bullion (investment) coin series in 2007, it has since proven popular around the world. Hailing from a land often associated with threatening wildlife, the koala is a most docile, if not adorable, animal that spends vast amounts of time sleeping in trees and eating the leaves of its preferred species of eucalyptus.
Version 2023
This Australian koala coin depicts a koala climbing a tree with a dependent calf clinging to its back for safety. In addition to the inscription 'KOALA' and the Perth Mint mintmark 'P', the reverse includes the weight, purity and year of issue.
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin bears the obverse commemorating Queen Elizabeth II with the effigy of Jody Clark and the dates of Her Majesty's reign: “1952 – 2022”.
