Today, May 11, the Royal Belgian Mint has issued a commemorative 2-euro coin "In recognition of the Health Sector for its care during the Covid Pandemic", with this coin paying tribute to the Belgian health sector, which by As in all the countries of the world, it has played a fundamental role in humanity's fight against this cursed disease.
In Belgium, figures from the beginning of April 2022 indicate that there have been approximately 3.9 million people who have been infected with the coronavirus since March 2020, of whom approximately 116,700 required hospitalization and some 30,800 died. Health care workers were extremely important during this time. Thanks to their daily commitment, they have been able to offer good care, even during periods of greatest virulence, their incredible effort being recognized throughout society.
On the coin we can read the text “DANKE – MERCI – DANK U” on the left. In addition, medical elements such as a stethoscope, a heart monitor, a syringe, the symbol of a wheelchair and a mortar are represented. On the right, a member of the health personnel with a mask; next to it, the inscriptions “LL” (initials of the designer Luc Luycx). At the bottom, the year 2022, the country code BE, the mintmark (coat of arms of the municipality of Herzele) and the mintmark of the Royal Netherlands Mint (Mercury staff) .
This coin from which only issued155,000 pieces are not released, so to have it you will have to buy one of the 150,000 coincards (two versions) with the coin in BU quality, or one of the 5,000 in Proof quality.
