Continuing with the entry published yesterday, we are going to learn more coins that will be issued on May 20 by the Vatican City State Mint. We only need to know, from this issue, a silver medal, of which I still do not have an image, in which all the proceeds from its sale will be donated to charity in favor of the Ukrainian people.

The series is available in two versions: the first with the 20 euro silver coin and the second with the 50 euro gold coin. The 20-euro silver coin, designed by Chiara Principe, is dedicated to a current issue very close to the heart of Pope Francis: treatments to counteract the pandemic and the need to be vaccinated.

 

The coin represents a doctor, a nurse and a young man who is ready to receive the vaccine. The Holy Father has repeatedly stressed the importance of vaccination, recalling that health care is "a moral obligation", and it is important "to continue efforts to immunize even the poorest peoples".

The 50-euro gold coin, designed by Marco Ventura, is dedicated to Our Lady of Mercy: the Virgin Mary appears standing with her mantle outstretched, under which a crowd of faithful shelters. Represented as the protector of humanity from the evils of the world, the Virgin was also called "Our Lady of Help". The four words that surround the figure of the Virgin Mary are: "listen, love, help, welcome" and have distinguished the work of Caritas for more than 50 years.

20 euro copper coin «Art and Faith: Saint Peter (outdoors)»

The 20-euro copper coin dedicated to the “Art and Faith” series is enriched this year with a detail of the dome of Saint Peter's Basilica. The artist Cristina De Giorgi has reproduced on the reverse of the coin the upper elevation of the Basilica's façade, where we can admire the dome in all its majesty. On both sides we see the two smaller domes and the 13 statues that adorn the balustrade above the main entrance of St. Peter's Basilica.

 

Many renowned architects and artists contributed to the design and construction of the dome from the beginning of the 16th century for almost a century: Donato Bramante, Raffaello Sanzio, and especially Michelangelo Buonarroti. It is one of the largest masonry roofs ever built, a symbol of both the Church of Rome and human creativity.

Coincard Year 2022

25 euro coin in silver with color «Solemnity of Easter»

 

This year, for the first time, the Vatican Mint is dedicating the 25 euro rectangular colored silver coin to the Solemnity of Easter. The detail of the Risen Christ depicted on the coin is taken from the fresco "The Resurrection" by Pinturicchio, which is in the Borgia Apartment of the Vatican Museums.

The artist Antonella Napolione has reproduced the image of Christ in the act of blessing, enveloped in an oval of golden light that rises above the tomb. The banner with the red cross on a white background, which we see to the left of Jesus, is the symbol of the resurrection and in Christian iconography it represents the triumph of Jesus over death.
