Flor de Cuño Euroset 2022 with 5 euro bimetallic coin – Centenary of the Death of Pope Benedict XV

The Vatican State Mint dedicates the five-euro bimetallic coin to the centenary of the death of Pope Benedict XV.

Giacomo della Chiesa was born in Genoa in 1854 and was elected pope in 1914, just three months after being made a cardinal. He became pope shortly after the start of the First World War. For much of his nearly eight-year pontificate, he made numerous impassioned calls for an end to the war.

On the reverse of the coin, the artist Patrizio Daniele has depicted Benedict XV in profile with his hands joined in prayer and the words: “war, a useless slaughter”. The phrase is taken from a letter written by the Pope in 1917 sent "to the belligerent powers" with the Pope inviting them to reflect on their serious responsibilities before God and humanity. He wrote many letters and exhorted them to end the war, but his appeals went unheeded.

Possible important news

I am trying to find out, I think I will know soon, the more than probable increase in the price of all numismatic products from the Vatican, since VAT will have to be added to the price marked for the different products, it is not clear what percentage will be applied for Spain, but it can be 10% or 21%.

This, if confirmed, may be bad news for collectors and good news for numismatics professionals, since professional merchants have been paying VAT for these Vatican coins, which to date did not make them competitive at the time. to sell these products. So it is possible that from this year we can get the same price to buy from the Vatican as from our trusted numismatic store.

By the way, San Marino seems to be going the same way.

I will be attentive to provide you with new information in this regard.
