The "Fauna & Flora" series of coins, created in collaboration with the Hëllef fir d'Natur Foundation, is dedicated to species that require special protection and vigilance. In 2020, the Central Bank of Luxembourg together with scientists shows its concern
about the decline in Luxembourg of the Bistorta. This is usually the host plant of one of the most beautiful butterflies, the "violet mantle" (Lycaena helle).

Dedicated to plant and butterfly, the 5 euro face coin made of 925 silver and Nordic gold alloy has Proof quality and has just been officially issued.

The coin shows a purple mantled butterfly perched on one of the two bistort that appear in the composition. The face value, 5 EURO, and the scientific name of the plant, BISTORTA OFFICINALIS, complete the composition.

The coin minted by the Dutch mint Koninklijke Nederlandse Munt, shows on its obverse the profile image of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, the name of the country and the year of issue 2020.

The coin, which has an approximate price of € 50, is presented as the one you can see in the image.
