After more than a month of delay, the United States Mint announces the issuance for July 10 of the third currency of 25 cents of circulation of this year 2020 belonging to the series "America the Beautiful Quarter". This series captures the stunning beauty of the natural landscapes of America that have inspired countless poets, adventurers, and artists. This time the protagonist is the "Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Reserve", located in the Virgin Islands.

The Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Reserve is a living museum in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Salt River Bay has an archaeological and historical heritage of more than 2,000 years old that exists within a dynamic ecosystem that houses threatened and endangered species. In 1992, Congress created the Salt River Bay as part of the National Park System to preserve, protect and tell the story of its rich natural and cultural heritage.

The site's combination of sea and land is home to some of the largest remaining mangrove forest in the Virgin Islands. In addition to mangroves, the other vital ecosystems within the reserve are an estuary, coral reefs, flora, and an underwater canyon. The park's water surface, which constitutes the majority of its more than 4,107,000 m², houses 27 species classified as rare, threatened or endangered.

Richard Masters' design depicts a red mangrove tree at an early stage in its life cycle, as it evolves from a very small plant to an adult tree. The design unveils the park's endangered mangrove forests and the unique and delicate nature of how the species breeds in saltwater. The inscriptions are "SALT RIVER BAY", "US VIRGIN ISLANDS", "2020" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM".

On the obverse of all the coins in the series, President George Washington is depicted, in a 2010 restored version by John Flanagan of the original portrait used in 1932 in the Washington Quarter.
