The Caribbean people who came to rebuild the United Kingdom after World War II are known as the Windrush generation. This year the Royal House of the British Mint, The Royal Mint wants to recognize them with the issuance of a 50 pence commemorative coin.
The coin
On the reverse of this commemorative UK 50 pence coin, Valda Jackson's design depicts two people of the Windrush generation, elegantly dressed, like many who arrived on the ship, with the Union Flag as their backdrop. background and the legend alluding to the 75th anniversary of the arrival of this generation. The image is one of unity and represents the link between the UK and the citizens of the Commonwealth who helped rebuild the country in times of need.
Like all coins dated 2023, the obverse features the official portrait of King Charles III designed by Martin Jennings.
