Just 24 hours after our colleague Paul (Euromunter) gave us the reason for the Portugal 2020 commemorative 2-euro coin that would replace the postponed next year "Portuguese participation in the Olympic Games", I have just received the official image that will present the new currency that we announced yesterday, dedicated to the "730 Anniversary of the University of Coimbra".

The national side of the coin represents the tower of the University of Coimbra and a visual composition of triangles representing the roofs of the University of Coimbra, the highest being that of the Joanina Chapel. The text "UNIVERSIDADE DE COIMBRA 730 ANOS" is shown between the triangles, the name of the issuing country and the year of issue "PORTUGAL 2020" appear below.

We also have the official information on the issue volume, which will be somewhat lower than usual, 360,000 pieces, but more than enough for all collectors to get them at reasonable prices. 350,000 will be distributed in rolls of 25 coins destined for circulation, in addition to 5,000 in BU quality and another 5,000 in Proof quality, in the usual presentations each year for this type of coin.

The issuance and putting into circulation of the coins is announced during the next month of November 2020.
