We have been attending for more than a week as once again the speculation on a commemorative 2 euro coin begins. For the second consecutive year it is a Finnish coin, which since the distribution of its coins ceased to be so by the Finnish Mint itself (Suomen Rahapaja) confusion and especially speculation have taken over Finnish coins. Since the distribution passed to Nordic Moneta at the end of last year, the information is conspicuous by its absence, only interested leaks come to us, spread by international sellers located mainly in Belgium and the Netherlands who, based on speculation, are doing business.
As you know, the first Finnish coin of this 2020 is dedicated to the "Centenary of the University of Turku" and the unclear date of issue provided by Nordic Moneta, said that it would be this spring, without providing its issue volume either. About 10 days ago I received an information to my email that indicates that the issue volume for the coin will be 800,000 pieces, of which 3,000 would be in Proof quality. Supposedly those of Proof quality were issued on April 24, something that was not the case, the last thing was that it was issued yesterday April 30, something that for the moment I have no record (I have visited different numismatic websites in Finland and in other countries and nobody has a real image of this coin), by the way some also say from Finland that there will be 5,000 Proof quality ones.
Those that should be distributed in rolls, 800,000 supposedly, according to the first "information" should have been released this week, something that I do not know either. What if it circulates through a multitude of Ebay-type pages is a sketch of the currency that surely has been filtered by the person or people who are trying to generate confusion with the issuance of this currency and more if we take into account the high price that is being paid for the commemorative of Finland 2019. What they are currently achieving is to make pre-sales of the 2020 currency at prices above 15 euros for the circulation currency and about 40 for the Proof.
What I recommend for the acquisition of this currency, and of course is what I will do. First of all, wait until you have official information about its issue, when I have it I will transfer it to you, if finally there are 800,000 that are put into circulation, it is essential to know if they will come out mixed with the regular 2 euros, or in full rolls, and also if it is possible to know the distribution mode that it will have. What I'm certainly not going to do is in a hurry, a very bad adviser in the world of collecting (with some exceptions), is to buy in presale and more at the prices that there are now.
