The golden coin of 200 euros 2019 has been issued today December 3 by the Ufficio Filatelico e Numismatico Vaticano, which opens a three-year cycle dedicated to the archangels Michael, Gabriel and Rafael. Starting with Miguel, the coin dedicated to it, made by the artist Mariangela Crisciotti, reproduces the monumental statue located in the Vatican Gardens and made by the artist Giuseppe Antonio Lomuscio, dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel, the main defender of the faith and universal custodian of the Church and also Patron Saint of the Body of the Vatican Gendarmerie.
The sculpture was blessed, something quite exceptional, by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, under whose pontificate it was commissioned, and by Pope Francis, reigning at the time of the inauguration: he carries, at the base, the shield of both pontiffs.
