The Krause Publications company, known mainly for its books dedicated to coins and bills (World Coins and World Paper Money) has announced the 10 winning coins as Currency of the Year 2020 (coins issued in 2018) in its different categories, these awards are popularly known as COTY (Coin Of The Year) awards.

After a selection of more than 1,000 pieces of 45 Mint from around the world, a series of experts from the world of numismatics, have decided that the 10 winners in the different categories are the following:

2020 COTY Awards

Best Currency dedicated to Historic Event

Coins that commemorate events, institutions or characters considered very significant in terms of the historical heritage of a people, a country or humanity. The issue must have occurred or have a historical perspective of at least 100 years ago.

France 10 euros in colored silver, Great War - Peace
 

 
Best Currency dedicated to Contemporary Event

Coins commemorating events, institutions or characters linked to current or recent events that influence a people or humanity. The issues must have happened during the last 99 years.

Italy 5 euros in silver with colored, 70th Anniversary of the Italian Constitution
 
 
Best gold coin

Coins minted in gold, platinum, palladium or other precious metal, which have a general artistic appeal, both aesthetically and commercially.

Best silver coin

Coins minted in silver, which have a general artistic appeal, both aesthetically and commercially.

Lithuania 5 euros in colored silver, Rasos Šventė (Festival for St. John's Day)
 
 
Best Crown Currency

Coins with a general appeal, both aesthetically and commercially. The single issue that the currency should reflect should also be considered, and how this piece fits the definition of "crown", including a minimum size requirement of 37 mm and a maximum size of 45 mm.

Currency that best fits the term "innovative concept". Pioneers in metal alloy themes, non-typical coin materials, shapes, different visual themes or other innovations. Special attention is given to technological advances that convey coinage ideas and mechanisms.

Lithuania 5, 10, 20, 50 euros, 3 silver, 1 gold, Centenary of the restoration of the independence of Lithuania (set of 4 coins).
 
 
Highest Inspiration Currency

The coin must present designs dedicated to ideas, events, institutions or individuals that best exemplify man's eternal aspirations for peace, freedom and human rights. The judges have taken into consideration the theme, design and artistic merit to choose the winner.

So far the winning coins by categories, now we need to know from among all these which is the winner as Currency of the Absolute Year 2020. During the next World Money Fair in Berlin to be held between January 31 to February 2, they will be delivered the awards to the awarded Mint.
