It will be next March 12, when the branches of the Bank of Spain will begin the distribution and putting into circulation of the two national commemorative 2 euro coins that are issued this year in our country. One of them belongs to the series dedicated to Spanish places included in the UNESCO World Heritage list, in 2024 the reason for this is "Cathedral, Alcázar and Archivo de Indias de Sevilla". The second celebrates the "200th Anniversary of the National Police."

Where and when to get the commemorative 2 euro coins from Spain

Those of us who have been collecting euro coins for some time know very well what we must do to obtain each year the commemorative 2 euro coin or coins that are issued in Spain at their face value, also for the rest of the coins in circulation. For the newest ones, I am going to explain the steps to follow to obtain these coins.

First of all, keep in mind that March 12 is the day of issuance of these new coins, and they have been distributed since that date in the different branches that the Bank of Spain has throughout the country.

Bank of Spain branches where you can get the currency

The Bank of Spain has its headquarters in Madrid; It also has 15 branches spread throughout the national territory.

It is necessary to make an appointment in advance to be attended to. Requesting an appointment can be made through this website of the Bank of Spain or by calling 913 385 000 (valid for all branches) from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Public service hours are Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Once at the branch

We will go to the window for changing coins and banknotes into euros, where we will request the coins we want and through which we will pay the total amount requested in other coins or banknotes, as long as they are also euros. In principle they have no obligation to provide us with coins from a specific year, only to provide change, but they usually have no problem providing us with what we request, as long as they have it available. Sometimes they even have commemorative 2 euro coins from other years that may interest you.

As a general rule, and with some exceptions, requests for complete rolls and not loose coins are accepted. The rolls of 2 euro coins come with 25 pieces, so they will exchange them for 50 euros. At home you can then open the roll, select the one that is or are in the best condition for your collection and you can spend the rest.

Another issue to take into account is that all branches do not have the latest coins issued at the same time. So it is easy that in the first days some branches have the most recent coins and others do not.

Just in case, I leave you the telephone numbers of all the branches of the Bank of Spain, you can call ahead and find out.

Remind you that there are 1.5 million pieces of each coin, so there are plenty of coins for everyone.
