The Bank of Lithuania has issued a few days ago a coin dedicated to Agricultural Sciences, a set of knowledge applicable to the cultivation of the land, derived from the exact, physical and economic sciences. The piece minted in gold has a facial of 5 euros and wants to value the achievements of Lithuanian agricultural sciences.
Today, with ecology, climate change and ecological strategies gaining more and more importance, the commitment to agricultural sciences also increases, since they contribute to the sustainable use of natural resources. The knowledge acquired over the years is used to develop agriculture as a whole, guaranteeing the rational use of natural resources, preserving a more natural and cleaner environment, providing food to the population and supplying the industry with raw materials.
The coin designed by Rytas Jonas Belevičius and minted in the Lithuanian Mint, shows on the obverse the outline of Lithuania and Vytis, the white knight of the coat of arms of the Republic of Lithuania, formed by parcels of cultivated land. Along with the legends referring to the issuing country "LIETUVA", the face value "€ 5" and the year of issue "2020", there is also the mint mark of the Lithuanian Mint.
The reverse of the coin represents the Tree of Life formed by a chain of DNA and cereals, together with the inscription ŽEMĖS ŪKIO MOKSLAI (AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES) at the top.
Although you saw a large coin in the images, it is actually a miniature that weighs only 1.244 g and has a diameter of 13.92 mm (a euro cent is larger 16.26 mm).
