We already know the motifs and designs that will present the two commemorative 2 euro coins that Italy will issue in 2021. The information on the minting of both coins, the subject to which they will be dedicated, the design and their authors was made public in the Gazzette Ufficiale della Repubblica Italiana yesterday, December 10.

The first will have the theme "Health Professions", with it will pay tribute and express gratitude to this group that takes care of people's health, even more so in times of pandemic.

In the center of the front, the figures of a man and a woman from health care stand out, equipped with masks, stethoscope and medical records, as representatives of all health professionals dedicated to the fight against COVID-19 on the front line. Above, the words "GRACIE", flanked on the right, by the outline of a heart, and on the left, by a medical cross. In the center are the initials "RI", an acronym for Italian Republic, on the right, "R", identification of the Mint of Rome and on the bottom left, "CM", initials of the author Claudia Momoni. In exergue, the year of issue "2021".

The announced issue volume is 3,000,000 coins.

The second will commemorate the "150th Anniversary of the establishment of Rome as the capital of Italy." The proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy and its unification as a country took place in 1861 but Rome would not be designated as the capital until ten years later, on February 3, 1871.

On the obverse there is a detail of the goddess Roma, a sculpture by Angelo Zanelli inserted in the center of the Altar of the Fatherland, a large votive altar dedicated to the Italian nation, made in honor of the first king of unified Italy, Victor Emmanuel II and which is located in the Venice Pizza in Rome. Above, arched and adjusted to the edge of the core, appears the inscription «ROMA CAPITALE» and the dates “• 1871 • 2021 •”, which correspond respectively to the year of the institution of Rome as the capital of Italy and the year of issue of the coin. In the left field appear the initials «RI», acronym for the Italian Republic, and «R», identification of the Mint of Rome, while in the exergue the initials "UP", of the author, appear stylized Uliana Pernazza.

The announced issue volume is 3,000,000 coins.

My thanks to Carlos Peláez and Paul (Euromunter).
