A white dove with an olive branch in its beak is world-renowned as a symbol of peace. The United States Mint has decided to make a radical change to represent peace, substituting the dove for its national bird, the bald eagle, which is also represented with an olive branch but instead of carrying it in its beak the carries in its claws.

This is the representation he has chosen to commemorate the "75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War" on a gold coin, although he has also issued a silver medal with the same design. We are going to focus on the coin, which frankly is a delight to behold.

This half ounce pure gold coin features original and contemporary designs that honor the “Greatest Generation” - Americans who fought one of the most serious threats the country and the entire world have ever faced.

The obverse design features an eagle in flight grasping an olive branch, symbolizing peace, in its right claw. The design is inspired by the 1945 version of the Great Seal of the United States, where the eagle looks to the right, towards the olive branch. The inscriptions are "LIBERTY", "1945" and "WORLD WAR II".

The reverse design echoes the sun element that appears on the obverse of the 1945 World War II Victory Medal. The sun on that medal, 75 years later, rose in the glow of noon. It shines on the symbolic olive branches on the left. The inscriptions are "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", "IN GOD WE TRUST", 75th ANNIVERSARY, "2020", "AU 24K 1/2 OZ." And "$ 25".
