This 2022 is a very special year for the British monarchy and the Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II is celebrated, the Queen celebrates her 70 years as monarch, this being the longest reign in British history. The reign of Elizabeth II began on February 6, 1952, with the death of her father, King George VI, although her coronation was delayed, as established in the succession protocol, until June 2, 1953.

The Royal Mint, The Royal Mint, has also joined in the anniversary celebrations with the issuance of several coins minted to pay tribute to his seven decades at the helm.

Although there are several coins issued for the occasion, we are going to focus on the lowest denomination, 50 pence, for me the most beautiful. Anyway at the end I will leave you a link where you can see and also buy all the issued.

The design on the reverse of the 50 pence coin is the work of design agency Osborne Ross. “We wanted to design a coin that had elegance and seriousness to reflect such a historic occasion. It was felt that a purely typographic solution would convey the dignity of the event and, through our choice of typeface, the grace and grandeur of our monarch.

«The Didot typeface was chosen for the exquisite contrast of its thick and thin lines, along with the beautiful teardrop shape of the number 7. We work closely with the design department of the Royal Mint, taking advantage of their experience to add nuances and a subtle modeling of the concept and bring it to life as an object to treasure.

Experienced numismatic artist John Bergdahl has created a festive portrait of the Queen for the obverse of this commemorative coin based on a 1953 design and struck on a 1953 coin. The design features the Queen on horseback in the uniform of the Cavalry Guard.
